Measure the finished area
Enter the rectangular project length and width in US or metric units. MetricSketch calculates the area and perimeter automatically.
PAVER PROJECT PLANNER
Estimate how many pavers you need for a rectangular patio or walkway, then calculate pallets, base aggregate, bedding sand, joint sand, edge restraint and optional material cost from the same project footprint.
PROJECT SETUP
Enter the finished rectangular area you want to cover.
Enter the nominal face size of one paver and an ordering waste allowance.
Set a layer depth to zero when it is not part of your project.
This cross-section is a relative planning visual, not a construction detail or exact scale drawing. Use project or supplier requirements for the layer depths appropriate to your site.
Use supplier coverage and piece length when you know them.
Optional purchasing inputs turn the material estimate into a practical shopping list and partial or complete cost plan.
PAVER PROJECT PLANNING GUIDE
Start with the finished project area and paver face size to calculate the piece count, then keep base aggregate, bedding sand, joint sand and edge restraint separate so each part of the patio or walkway can be planned and ordered independently.
Enter the rectangular project length and width in US or metric units. MetricSketch calculates the area and perimeter automatically.
Use a common nominal size or enter custom dimensions, then add a waste allowance to estimate the number of pieces to order.
Add base and bedding depths, supplier density, joint-sand coverage and edge-restraint length to keep each material quantity separate.
Add pallet information and optional prices to build a shopping list, cost estimate and supplier-ready project summary.
WHAT THE CALCULATOR ESTIMATES
Calculates pieces from the project area and paver face size, then applies your waste allowance and optional pieces-per-pallet value.
Estimates order volume and weight from area, depth, density and extra-material allowance.
Keeps the bedding layer separate from the aggregate base and estimates its own volume, weight and optional material cost.
Uses the coverage value supplied for your selected product to estimate how many bags are needed for the project area.
Uses the project perimeter and the length of one restraint piece to estimate the number of pieces to order.
Optional prices create a known-price subtotal or a complete estimated material subtotal when every active component is priced.
The calculator estimates quantities; it does not prescribe a structural pavement design. Base and bedding requirements can vary with soil, drainage, climate, traffic, product system and local specifications.
WORKED EXAMPLE
The default example covers 300 ft² with 8 in × 4 in pavers and a 10% waste allowance. That requires 1,485 pavers to order, or 5 pallets when each pallet contains 360 pieces.
These figures use the example settings built into the calculator. Confirm actual paver dimensions, product packaging, base and bedding requirements, material density, joint-sand coverage and edge-restraint lengths before ordering.
PAVER CALCULATOR FAQ
MetricSketch divides the patio or walkway area by the face area of one paver, then applies your waste allowance and rounds the order quantity up to a whole piece.
A waste allowance can account for cuts, breakage and ordering margin. Enter the percentage appropriate to your project rather than treating the default as a required value.
Enter the number of pieces supplied on one pallet and MetricSketch divides the order quantity by that packaging value, then rounds up to the next whole pallet.
Enter the base and bedding depths required by your project. MetricSketch calculates each layer's volume and estimated weight separately. The calculator does not prescribe the correct structural depth for your site.
Enter the coverage per bag shown by the manufacturer for your paver and joint configuration. MetricSketch uses that coverage and the project area to estimate the number of bags.
No. They are planning estimates. Confirm actual product dimensions, density, coverage, packaging, availability, quantity and current pricing with your supplier before ordering.
